May is, without a doubt, the most strategic month to visit Paris. The city wakes up with incredible light, the parks are in full bloom, and the temperature is ideal for getting around without the summer crowds. This year, we suggest putting aside taxis and the metro to discover Paris like a true local: by bicycle.
It is the smartest way to practice slow travel: you are the master of your own time, you move sustainably, and you enjoy the urban landscape without filters.
It’s no longer just a trend; Paris has transformed into one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world. Thanks to a constantly growing infrastructure, you can now cross the city from end to end on safe bike lanes separated from traffic.
Getting around by bike here has a special feel. It’s a blend of urban practicality and lifestyle. You’ll see it is the preferred transport for Parisians heading to work or meeting for coffee in the Marais, integrating perfectly into the city's aesthetic.
You don't need logistical complications. The simplest and most ubiquitous option is Vélib’, the city’s public service.
How does it work? Download the Vélib' Métropole app, choose a pass (24h or 3-day options are available), and unlock the bike with a code or your phone.
Where? There are stations everywhere. Upon leaving Pulitzer Paris, you will find several pick-up points less than a two-minute walk away.
Tip: If you want a relaxed ride, choose the blue ones (electric); if you prefer a bit of exercise, the green ones (mechanical) are perfect.
From our location in the 9th arrondissement (Opéra / Grands Boulevards), you have a perfect route that combines monumental architecture and green corners:
The Start: Leave the hotel and head toward the Opéra Garnier. It is a breathtaking starting point for your photos.
Toward Palais Royal: Ride down Rue de Richelieu until you reach the Palais Royal gardens. In May, its flowers and the famous Buren columns are a must-stop.
The Seine: Continue to the river and enter the Voies sur Berge. These are kilometers of paths exclusive to bikes and pedestrians along the water's edge. You will pass under the most iconic bridges with a unique perspective of the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay.
Stop in Le Marais: Detour slightly to enter this historic neighborhood. Its narrow streets are ideal for cycling until you reach Place des Vosges, the perfect spot to soak up the local spring atmosphere.
Return via the Grands Boulevards: Head back toward the hotel along the wide boulevards, enjoying the terrace life and the commercial pulse of the area.
Moving by bicycle allows you to connect these points in just 30 or 40 minutes, but with the freedom to stop at any café that catches your eye along the way.
